
Over the past three years we have spent, and continue to spend, time, effort and money on Selkie Dancer. The aim is make her a safe, self supporting home from home. The list of enhancements and replacements seems unending. Are they all necessary? Not perhaps for the purist, but softies like us who value safety, comfort and minimum stress would argue that most have their place!
I have listed the more significant in rough chronological order :
2005/6
Remove : HF radio, PC, Yeoman navigator.
New : battery monitor, under mattresses, detachable inner forestay, second anchor, engine room fire extinguisher.
Replace : 2 x house batteries, genset battery, shower pump, genset, main anchor, headspump.
2006/7
Remove : multi stack CD player.
New : Automatic Identification System (AIS), Navtex, Hydorvane, freezer, storm jib mounting, stabilizer sail.
Replace : engine, fuel filter, alternator, propeller shaft, stern gland, fridge, EPIRB, fresh water piping, galley work top, sink, genset exhaust, out board, saloon curtains, magnetic compass, bowthruster switch, heater exhaust.
2007/8
New : forward heads holding tank, diode galvanic isolator on AC, kedge anchor (Fortress).
Replace : VHF radio and DSC, engine battery management system, engine start battery, battery charger, battery cables.
